I entered my previous work for the Departure student art prize which was being held in Leeds. I improved the 'Wave' piece to what I would have liked it to be for assessment, if I had more time. I was very pleased with how it turned out and could plainly see that more was better. I wasn't allowed to nail it to the wall and so thought about hanging it in the middle of the room. This position really made it stand out and allowed people to walk around it and observe it at different angles.
Northern Art Prize 2011
I got a pair of tickets to the awards evening of the Northern Art Prize, which was held on 20th Jauary at Leeds Art Gallery. It was a pleasure going to such a prestigious event in the art world. the artworks in the running for the prize were amazing and really showed the variety of mediums and concepts from the shortlisted artists.
Haroon Mirza won the £17,500 prize for his installations of sound, video and found objects. It really opened my eyes to the opportunities out there for artists, and the Northern Art Prize is definatley something to aim towards.
